Looking to start a career in software testing in Manchester?

This role is ideal for someone wanting to start a career in software testing – that’s the part of software development that involves making sure products really do what they are supposed to. At Mapway, we have a strong and supportive team following best development practices. This makes it a great place to learn basic techniques, and then to go on to develop your skills and experience much further. As well as the usual package, there are great social events, flexibility on working hours and a city centre location. The job involves various types of software testing- we will provide training, following the industry standard ISTQB. We’re looking for someone who is happy to learn, wants to work as part of a team, and can also understand the needs of the real people who use our apps as well as the technical issues that affect their behaviour. If you think this is you, please read on for more detail, or just send your CV with a covering letter to recruitment@mapway.com Who are Mapway and what do we do? We develop travel apps, to help millions of users around the world plan journeys on public transport. Our innovative navigation apps are available on both iPhone and Android devices, in some of the busiest cities on the planet such as London, New York, Paris and Singapore. With 51 transport apps for 24 different cities, including Tube Map – our award winning London Underground app – Mapway has over 13 million users worldwide and our apps have been downloaded over 50 million times. All of these apps rely for their success on their high quality – something that is ensured by our QA (Quality Assurance) team. The Role We are looking for a Junior QA Test Analyst to join our QA team. The role is ideally suited to someone who wants to start a career in software testing, and particularly for mobile apps. Our goal is to provide the world’s best travel and transport apps for people travelling around cities, and the QA team is vital to ensuring we deliver apps that work properly. You will learn the techniques and practices associated with testing within software development, more specifically mobile apps. You will be working as part of the wider development team, testing software throughout the development lifecycle to check that it meets requirements and is of high quality. You will be using different types of testing methods, providing feedback and reports on testing activities. In order to do this you need to be methodical, organised and enquiring. We’d prefer degree level qualified candidates, but no previous experience of testing/QA, software or IT is needed. We’ll provide all the mentoring and training necessary. You’ll need good written and verbal communication skills – a big part of the role is working alongside development and commercial staff to understand what our apps should really be doing and then to report back clearly on unexpected behaviour to allow problems to be dealt with. You’ll also need to be able to understand something about how people in the outside world will use our apps. You will be joining an expanding company who can offer an exciting opportunity to start a career in software testing.
