Back to blog The Spring Bank Holiday weekend is the perfect time to head to a rooftop bar, organise a picnic in the park or enjoy a BBQ with friends. Unless it rains… which it might do! But let’s not worry about the weather. London always has lots of things to do and interesting places to go. So if you’re heading somewhere fun this weekend, you’ll need to know the best way to get there. We’ve gathered together the updates you need to know for the May 2016 Spring Bank Holiday (Saturday 28th – Monday 30th), helping you to avoid catastrophe and make the most of your weekend.

Travel updates for the Tube

District Line

From Saturday to Monday there will be no trains running between Earl’s Court and Wimbledon.

Travel updates for Buses

Chelsea – From 08:00 to 17:30 on Saturday, roads in the area are expected to be busier than usual due to the Chelsea Flower Show. West London – From 09:00 on Saturday until 17:00 on Sunday, there will be an eastbound lane restriction on A205 Kew Bridge Road at the junction of Chiswick High Road. Twickenham – From 12:30 until 19:00 on Saturday and again on Sunday from 12:00 until 20:00, roads around the area are expected to be busier than usual because of sporting events. Roads leading to Twickenham Stations and around the stadium will be the busiest. Also, be aware that London road, Whitton Road and Rugby Road will close before and after the events. This will be for the Aviva Premiership Final and Old Mutual Wealth Cup Rugby matches. Wembley – Again, sporting events in the area will lead to busier roads, especially around the stadium. The busiest times will be 14:00 to 21:00 on Saturday, 12:00 to 19:00 on Sunday and 12:00 to 19:00 on Monday. This is for Sky Bet League football matches. West London – From 04:00 to 22:00 on Sunday, Talgarth Road (A4) will be closed Westbound between West Cromwell Road and Hammersmith Flyover. TfL has said that this is due to a crane operation, however if there are high winds this could be moved to Monday. Central London – From 07:00 to 17:30 on Sunday, The Mall, Spur Roads and all roads in St James’s Park will be closed. From 08:00 to 14:00 on Monday, there will be a large number of roads closed in the area for the Vitality 10K London Marathon race. These include The Mall, Trafalgar Square, Strand and Aldwych. Travel updates for Trains

Heathrow Connect – Trains won’t stop at West Ealing or Hanwell on Saturday or Monday. Southeastern – Saturday to Monday trains will not run from London Charing Cross or London Cannon Street. Most trains will divert to London Victoria or London Blackfriars. Whilst other services will start/ terminate at London Bridge or New Cross. The travel apps you need this Spring Bank Holiday Weekend

There are lots of great Mapway apps but if you’re in London then there are three essential apps you will need. Millions of London Underground passengers rely on Tube Map to check live departures, view the current line status and plan a journey (being able to route to an address or landmark is always helpful). If you’re a frequent bus passenger then you’ll be familiar with the nightmare that is waiting ages for a bus that ends up being cancelled. Thanks to Bus Times London this will never be a problem again because you’ll have quick access to live bus arrival times. And finally if you’re getting the train in or out of London, you can’t go wrong with myTrains (and having no booking fees on train tickets is definitely a bonus!)   If you want to be kept in the know with future weekend updates for the London Underground, we post weekly “snapshots” on @TubeMapLondon For more Mapway and city news you can find us on Facebook and Twitter.
