Back to blog Spring is a busy time for the London Underground and even more so during the holidays. During this Easter Bank Holiday weekend (14th-17th April) there are a lot of closures and changes to be aware of. We’ve got the details of everything that’s happening across London transport this Easter so you’re prepared for any journey you want to make.

Easter Closures on the Tube Map

TfL has produced two Tube Maps to show where the major planned works are happening. Click on a map to see it in a larger view.

Easter Closures on the London Underground

Tube lines affected: Circle line. When: Friday 14th April to Monday 17th April. What’s closed: Trains won’t run between Hammersmith and Edgware Road. Replacement services: TfL advise passengers to use the Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines instead.   Tube lines affected: District and Hammersmith & City lines. When: Friday 14th April to Monday 17th April. What’s closed: There will be no Hammersmith & City trains between Liverpool Street and Barking. There will be no District line trains between Aldgate East and West Hame. Replacement services: A replacement bus (Service A) will run every 10 minutes between Tower Hill and Canning Town, stopping at Aldgate/ Aldgate East, Whitechapel, Stepney Green, Mile End, Bow Road and Bromley-by-Bow.   Tube lines affected: Metropolitan line. When: Friday 14th April to Monday 17th April. What’s closed: Trains won’t run between Wembley Park and Northwood/ Uxbridge. Replacement services: There will extra trains on the Piccadilly line between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge. There will also be two replacement buses. The first (Service A) will run between Rayners Lane and Wembley Park, stopping at North Harrow, West Harrow, Harrow-on-the-Hill, Northwick Park, Preston Road and Kenton. The second bus (Service B) will run between Northwood and Wembley Park, stopping at Northwood Hills, Pinner, North Harrow, West Harrow and Horrow-on-the-Hill.   Tube lines affected: Victoria line. When: Sunday 16th April to Monday 17th April. What’s closed: Trains won’t run on the entire line. If you will be using the Night Tube on Saturday night, TfL advise you to make your journey by 02:30 heading Southbound and 03:00 heading Northbound. Replacement services: There will be three replacement buses. The first bus (Service A) will run every five minutes between Walthamstow Central and Finsbury Park, stopping at Blackhorse Road, Tottenham Hale, Seven Sisters and Manor House. The second bus (Service B) will run every 20 minutes between Seven Sisters and Angel, stopping at Manor House, Finsbury Park, Holloway Road and Highbury & Islington. The third bus (Service C) will run every 10 minutes between Victoria and Brixton, stopping at Pimlico, Vauxhall and Stockwell.

Other changes to be aware of.

  • Whitechapel station will be closed from Friday 14th April to Monday 17th April.
  • Lancaster Gate station is closed until July 2017.
  • On Friday 14th April and Monday 17th April the Tube will operate a Saturday service.
 

Easter Closures on the London Overground

Friday 14th April to Monday 17th April. there will be the following changes: There will be no service between Camden Road and Stratford. There will be no service between Romford and Upminster.   Sunday 16th April to Monday 17th April. there will be the following changes: There will be no service between Highbury & Islington and Shadwell. There will be no service between Surrey Quays and New Cross.  

Easter Closures on the DLR

There will be no DLR trains between Bow Church and Stratford from Friday 14th April to Monday 17th April.  

Easter Closures on TfL Rail

There will be no service on the entire TfL Rail line from Friday 14th April to Monday 17th April. There will be two replacement buses. The first will go between Stratford and Romford, stopping at Forest Gate, Manor Park, Ilford, Seven Kings, Goodmayes and Chadwell Heath. The second bus will go between Newbury Park and Shenfield, stopping at Chadwell Heath, Romford, Gidea Park, Harold Wood and Brentwood.  

Easter Closures on the Trams

The tramline between East Croydon and Reeves Corner will be closed Saturday 8th to Monday 17th. Tram services will not go to Elmers End at certain times of the weekend. Those times are: After 18:30 on Friday 14th April and Saturday 15th April. All day Sunday 16th April and Monday 17th April.  

Catching a Bus?

On Friday 14th April London buses will run a reduced Saturday service and on Monday 17th April buses will run a reduced Sunday service. Buses in the areas of Greenwich and Woolwich are expected to be busier than normal because of the Tall Ships Regatta. If you’re travelling on route 180 and 187 TfL advises you give yourself extra travel time. For live bus times and travel delays download the Bus Times London app free on iOS and Android.  

Getting a National Rail train?

The Heathrow Express will be less frequent over the Easter weekend. The Piccadilly line will still operate between Heathrow and Central London if you need an alternative. There will be a number of planned works over the Easter weekend that may affect your journey. Check the National Rail website for details of changes by train company.  

Staying in-the-know

With so many closures over the Easter Weekend, it will be especially important to have easy access to TfL’s Line Status for the Tube, DLR and TfL Rail. Receive live updates about all of the lines on Tube Map for iOS and Android. You’ll find the Line Status feature in the side-menu of the app. Realtime routing will also be a big help. It plans around known disruptions so you don’t have to remember every single change and closure that’s happening over Easter.
