Back to blog london-disaster-map London Has Fallen is now showing in UK cinemas. The sequel to Olympus Has Fallen sees Secret Service agent Mike Banner return to save the US President during an attack on the city of London. The plot of the film got us thinking about other disaster movies that have been filmed in London and how we wouldn’t fancy sticking around if things really kicked off with Gerard Butler’s character. So using our range of transport apps – we put ourselves to the test to find out just how to get around London during a movie disaster and what mode of transport would be best to take! Spectre If Daniel Craig was really roaming around London as 007 it’s likely that at some point or other he’d end up in a couple of sticky situations. If the evil Blofeld ever captured James Bond, tied him up and was threatening to demolish Mi6. What would we do? Run – obviously! Using our trusty Tube Map app we found that the best option to escape from outside Mi6 was to get to Vauxhall underground, hop on the Victoria line to Oxford Circus, change onto the Bakerloo and head to Paddington. In under 19 minutes we’d be out of there and of course by that time Bond would have defeated the evil Blofeld. Thor: The Dark World If Marvel’s Thor happened to pay a visit to Greenwich (which could happen?) there is no doubt that the morning commute to work would take slightly longer the next time Malekith, the Dark Elf, planned to unleash the Aether on the nine realms. If that happened we wouldn’t be hanging around thinking how to get around London – we’d head straight to the O2 which looks like a sturdy building to hide inside. According to our London Bus app the best route from Greenwich would be getting the 188 bus which only takes 21 minutes. In less than half an hour we’d be completely out of the mayhem, staying clear of Mjolnir while Thor saved the day. Shaun of the Dead One of the funniest films to be set in London – unless you happen to be Shaun waking up to a Zombie apocalypse – is Shaun of the Dead. Using our range of transport apps we looked into how easy it would be for Shaun to get from his place in Crouch End to the Winchester Tavern. The route planner makes the journey sound simple enough. Hop on the 41 bus to Archway station (as long as the driver isn’t already a zombie!) change onto the Northern line and head to Borough; leave the station and find the 21 bus to Briant Street. Only issue we found is that Shaun would probably forget to mention The Winchester is one and a quarter hours away and you’d probably get bitten before you even got there. Typical Shaun… 28 Days Later If a highly contagious rage-inducing virus spread across London you would be inclined to think St Thomas’ Hospital is the best place to be? Wrong! In a disaster movie everyone in the hospital would be infected and you’d need to head to the hills for safety. According to our data a brisk 15 minute jog to Waterloo and then a ten minute Northern Line journey to Euston would soon see you on your way. Pheew! The Bourne Ultimatum The next time you’re minding your own business at Waterloo station let’s hope Jason Bourne doesn’t spring into action and you find yourself in the middle of the cross fire. How to get around London in the middle of The Bourne Ultimatum would be a piece of cake – if you had the myTrains app on your phone. We’d suggest hopping on a South West Trains service to Vauxhall. Before you know it four minutes would have passed and you’d be nowhere near the chaos. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince You’re walking across Millennium Bridge when Death Eaters attack, causing the bridge to collapse. What do you do? Head to Hogwarts of course! If you’re a muggle your best option to travel undetected would be getting to Blackfriars station and finding the number 63 bus – which would have you at King’s Cross in 27 minutes. Platform nine and three quarters would never have looked so good! If you’re a witch or wizard, just call the Knightbus! London Has Fallen If an attack on London had killed off several world leaders, we would expect to see a number of people at Saint Paul’s Cathedral taking part in a memorial service. But if the baddies came back to finish Gerard Butler off for good, we wouldn’t fancy our chances at all! No. We’d be off and heading to Stratford International Airport via the Central line on the Underground, leaving the craziness behind in under 25 minutes! Mapway’s range of transport apps can help the next time you wonder how to get around London – whether you’re being chased by zombies, Death Eaters, caught in a Matt Damon cross fire, or not.
