We’ve got two lovely Bank Holidays in May, one on the 2nd and one on the 30th and we’re just days away from the first one. If you’re trying to make plans for the Early May Bank Holiday, then take a look at our travel guide so you know what’s running and what’s not between Friday 29th and Monday 2nd May.

Trains

If you’re travelling in to or out of London, some services will be running on a Saturday schedule from/ to London Euston. An amended service will run between London Euston and Crewe, so make sure to check your route in myTrains before travelling.

London Underground

There will be a number of interruptions over the Bank Holiday weekend as TfL carry out their improvement programme to modernise the Tube. District and Hammersmith & City lines will be affected as Eastbound trains will not be stopping at Whitechapel due to Crossrail construction work. The Northern Line will also be affected as there will be no service between Archway and High Barnet/Mill Hill East. This is to allow for track and drainage replacement work at Finchley Central. You can check Tube Map at any time for more line status and station information.

London Overground

Trains won’t be running between Romford and Upminster or Gospel Oak and Barking on Sunday and Monday so you may need to use local buses instead. Replacement buses will run between Gospel Oak and Barking.

Trams

Trams will be running a normal service over the Early May Bank Holiday.

Buses

Many bus services will be affected this May Bank Holiday weekend due to a number of road closures: East London – From 22:00 on Friday until 05:00 on Monday, A13 Lodge Avenue Flyover will be closed in both directions for maintenance works. London Bridge – From 01:00 on Saturday until 06:00 on Tuesday, Tooley Street will be closed between Borough High Street and Bermondsey Street. Duke Street Hill will also be closed. Twickenham – From 12:00 until 19:00 on Saturday, roads in and around Twickenham are expected to be busier than usual, including A316 Chertsey Road, all roads leading to Twickenham Station and around Twickenham stadium due to a sporting event. In addition, London Road, Whitton Road and Rugby Road will be closed before and after the event. Central London – From 11:30 until 17:00 on Sunday, there will be road closures and delays on various roads, including Clerkenwell Road, Theobalds Road, High Holborn, Kingsway, Aldwych, Strand and Trafalgar Square due to a procession. Use Bus Times London this weekend to check the time of your next bus and plan routes. For more travel and transport information visit the Mapway blog or follow us on Twitter @MapwayApps. Back to blog
